Delegating Access to Your Email Account

Overview

You may want to grant delegated access to someone else in certain situations. Delegated access will allow another person to read, respond, and organize the inbox of your email account.

Limitations of a Delegated Account:

  • Delegation is for email only. Apps like Calendar and Drive will need to be shared within the individual apps.
  • Delegated accounts can only be accessed via a web browser. You will not be able to access a delegated account using an app on your mobile device.

Delegating Your Email Account

  1. Log in to your AU email within a browser.
  2. Click on the  gear icon and click on the See all settings button.
  3. Click on the Accounts tab.
  4. In the Grant access to your account section, click the Add another account link.
  5. Enter the email address of the individual you want delegated access. This is limited to someone who has an @anderson.edu account. Click the Next Step button and the Send email to grant access button.
  6. The delegated account will now be on your account list. Before the person can access the account, they must first accept the delegation invitation. More information for the person getting delegated access is available in the article "Accessing a Delegated Email Account."

Make sure you select the setting for what you would like to happen within your email. When the delegated individual reads your messages, do you want the conversations to be marked as read (no longer bold in your inbox), or would you like the conversations to be left marked unread? If the person sends a message on your behalf, should the email show that it is not coming directly from you? These options can be changed at any time.
