Setting Up a New Device on Okta Verify

Overview

When you get a new mobile device, you will soon learn that Okta Verify is tied to a single device, and you can't use it on your new device. If you have set up a secondary MFA option, you can get into your account to remove the old device and set up a new one using the directions below. Otherwise, you will need to contact the ITS help desk to get assistance.

Instructions

  1. Log in to Okta using SMS or another MFA option. If your login page defaults to the Okta Verify option, click the button next to the Okta Verify picture and select another sign-in option.
  2. Once logged into Okta, click on your name in the top right corner. Click Settings from the drop-down menu.
  3. Click the green Edit Profile button. If you have logged in recently and don't see the Edit Profile button, skip steps 4-7.
  4. Enter your Password and click the Verify button.
  5. Click the Send Push option. Open the Okta Verify app on your mobile device and tap the Yes, it's me button.
  6. Under the Extra Verification heading, click the Remove button next to Okta Verify. Click Yes to complete the process.
  7. Click the Set up button next to Okta Verify to add your new device.
  8. On your new mobile device:
    1. Go to the app store and search for Okta Verify by Okta, Inc. Download the app to your mobile device.
    2. Open the Okta Verify app and tap the + (plus sign) to add a new account.
    3. Tap Organization for your account type.
    4. Tap Yes, Ready to Scan to capture your QR code.
    5. Point your mobile device camera at the QR code on your computer screen. It will automatically capture the QR code and link your mobile device to your Okta account. IMPORTANT: Do not use anyone else's QR code or let anyone use your QR code. This will link the wrong accounts to devices.
    6. Tap the Done button.

If you don't set up a new device immediately, you will be prompted to set one up the next time you log in Okta.
