Getting Connected @ AU: A Guide for New Students

Your AU Account

When you were accepted to Anderson University, you should have received an email with the subject "Important Information Concerning Your AU Account." This email contains your AU username, temporary password, and AU email address.

Your AU username and password are used to sign in to Okta, Student First, and your AU Gmail account. The first time you sign in, you'll be prompted to change your password.

If you can't find your account information or are unable to sign in, please contact Information Technology Services (ITS) by submitting a Raven Solutions request: Get Help with Logging In

Setting Up Okta

Okta is Anderson University's secure sign-in portal. You'll use it to access your AU applications, including Student First, Gmail, Canvas, and other campus services.

We suggest finishing this setup on a computer while using your phone to install the Okta Verify app. If you don’t have a smartphone or need a different way to authenticate, please contact ITS before proceeding.

  1. Go to https://anderson.okta.com.
  2. Sign in using your AU username and temporary password.
  3. Follow the prompts to set up Okta Verify as your multi-factor authentication (MFA) method.
  4. Download the Okta Verify app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store when prompted.
  5. Use the app to scan the QR code displayed on your computer.
  6. Continue following the prompts to:
    • Change your temporary password.
    • Add recovery options (a personal email address and/or mobile phone number).
    • Complete your account setup.

✓ You're all set if...

  • You can sign in to Okta without errors.
  • Okta Verify sends a notification to your phone.
  • You can see your Okta dashboard after signing in.

Accessing Gmail

Your AU email is an official means of communication. You should check it regularly for important information related to campus and your classes.

Opening Gmail from Okta

  1. From your Okta dashboard, click the Gmail tile
  2. If this is the first time you’ve logged in, follow the prompts to set up your account

Add Your AU Email to Your Phone

We recommend adding your AU Gmail account to your phone so you don't miss important university emails.

  1. Install or open the Gmail app on your phone.
  2. Select Add another account.
  3. Enter your AU email address (username@anderson.edu).
  4. You'll be redirected to the Anderson University Okta sign-in page.
  5. Sign in using your AU username and password.
  6. Complete the Okta Verify multi-factor authentication prompt if requested.
  7. Accept any prompts to allow the account to be added to the Gmail app.

Once setup is complete, your AU email will begin syncing with the Gmail app.

✓ You're all set if...

  • You can open the Gmail app and see your AU inbox.
  • You can send and receive email using your AU account.

Logging into Student First

Student First is where you manage your schedule, financial aid, account balance, grades, and more.

Setting Up Your Student First Account

  1. From your Okta dashboard, click the Student First tile
  2. Click the Please Login link
  3. Click Anderson SSO
  4. Enter your AU Email Address and click Send verification code
  5. Go your AU email and find the email from Silverleaf Systems B2C — copy the 6-digit code
  6. Return to Student First, enter the code, and click Verify code
  7. Enter your first and last name and click Continue

Updating FERPA Information

FERPA is a federal law giving you control over who can discuss your records with the university. To allow a parent or guardian to speak with AU:

  1. In Student First, click the pencil icon in your My Profile box
  2. Scroll to Privacy Settings and click +Add
  3. Enter the name and relationship of the person
  4. For Information Type, select FERPA Release
  5. Click Update — repeat to add more contacts
  6. IMPORTANT: Click Save on the Profile page to save all changes

ITS can help you with log in issues, but many other departments will help you with the information that is listed within the system.

Connecting to WiFi on Campus

When you are on campus, you can connect to the internet using the Raven Wireless network. This secured WiFi connection will require you to login using your AU network user name and password. Raven Guest is an additional WiFi connection that we provide to guests on campus, but you should not use this network if you are trying to access campus resources. Detailed instructions for connecting to Raven Wireless using a variety of devices can be found in the Raven Solutions category "Connecting to the WiFi."

Getting Technical Help

You can contact ITS to get technical help in several different ways. Visit us at any time on Raven Solutions by going to anderson.edu/its. (You're on Raven Solutions right now...this is one of our knowledge base articles.) We are also available by phone, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, at 765-641-4300 or you can stop by our help desk on the bottom floor of Decker in room 54. When you are facing Create Cafe, the help desk is at the end of the hallway on the left.
