Overview

Apple's Numbers is a free spreadsheet program on Mac computers. Unfortunately, files created in Numbers can only be viewed in Numbers. This means that any files submitted in Canvas or shared with PC users can not be viewed by the recipient. This article explains how you can export a spreadsheet in Apple's Numbers to the Excel format that can be viewed in Canvas and in Excel.

Please Note: All students are able to get a copy of Microsoft Excel as a student. More information is available here.

Instructions

From a Mac laptop or desktop:

  1. In Numbers, open the Numbers spreadsheet that you want to export.
  2. Choose File > Export To, then select Excel.
  3. In the window that appears, you can choose a different format or set up any additional options.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Enter a name for your file and select a folder to save it to.
  6. Click Export.

Additional information can be found in the article Convert Numbers spreadsheets to PDF, Microsoft Excel, and more on Apple's support website.
