Overview
Instructors can migrate an individual quiz from Classic Quizzes to be used in New Quizzes. Instructors can use New Quizzes to create quizzes using a variety of question types. New Quizzes display as assignments in the Assignments page and can be duplicated. Students can take New Quizzes quizzes within their Canvas courses.
- After migration to New Quizzes, Multiple Dropdown questions display as Fill in the Blank questions.
- Text No Question questions migrate to New Quizzes as Stimulus questions. An instructor must add a question for it to be displayed in a quiz.
- Question groups with manually created questions will migrate as item banks in New Quizzes.
- If a quiz is migrated multiple times, Canvas uses smart merging to decipher the question bank content that should be retained. This process helps ensure all content is retained, such as in cases where multiple users may be making edits to a quiz at the same time.
Instructions
Open Course
In Global Navigation, click the Courses link [1], then click the name of the course that contains the quiz you want to migrate [2].
Open Quizzes
Click the Quizzes link.
Migrate Quiz
To migrate a quiz, click the Options icon [1]. Then click the Migrate option [2].
Note: You can not migrate a new version quiz back to a classic version quiz. This is mostly irrelevant because when you migrate a quiz you still have access to the classic version of the quiz. However if you "accidentally" delete the classic version of the quiz add /undelete to the URL to restore recently deleted items from your course (your course number will be at the top of the screen in the URL after the word "Courses" See the example in the below:
Example: https://anderson.instructure.com/courses/5-digit-URL-course number/undelete
Once migrated, the quiz displays a New Quiz icon [1]. To open your quiz, click the name of the quiz [2].
Notes:
- By default, migrated quizzes are unpublished.
- Migrated quizzes are displayed under their original quiz
