Faculty and Staff: Install Network Printers on Windows

Summary

Instructions for installing new print drivers and removing old print drivers. This is for faculty and staff.

Body

Introduction

Network printers must be installed on your university computer before use. Your computer must be connected to the AU network before you can install a network printer. Each network printer must be installed separately. Installing one printer does not automatically make other network printers available on your computer. If you need to print to multiple printers, follow these steps for each printer you want to use.

To Install New Printer Drivers:

  1. In the search area near the Windows icon (bottom left corner), type \\portsmouth and hit the Enter key.
  2. A new window will open with a list of all the available printers on campus. Click here to see a list of locations and device names. Double-click on the printer you want to install.
  3. A small install program will run. When you see the Printer Queue window the process is complete and you can close the Printer Queue window.
  4. Repeat the process for additional printers as needed.

IMPORTANT: When you print new documents, you will need to make sure the selected printer is labeled as on Portsmouth and not an old printer, which will be labeled as on Portland. If you have printers that are labeled as being on Portland, follow the instructions below to remove them.

To Remove Old Printers:

  1. In the search area near the Windows icon (bottom left corner), type printers and hit the Enter key.
  2. A window listing all your installed printers will appear. Click on any printers that are listed as on Portland. Click the Remove Device button.
  3. When prompted, confirm that you would like to remove the printer by clicking the Yes button.
