Faculty and Staff should connect to the VPN to work offsite. This install will not work on campus, so please follow the steps away from campus.

Body

Overview

A virtual private network (VPN) is a secure way to access a private network over a public internet connection. All university employees should connect to AU's VPN when working remotely.

THE VPN CANNOT BE INSTALLED WHILE ON CAMPUS.

Installing the VPN - MUST BE COMPLETED OFF CAMPUS

THE VPN INSTALLATION MUST BE COMPLETED OFF CAMPUS since being connected to Raven Wireless is already a secure connection to AU's private network. If you try to connect to the VPN while on campus, you will receive an error. These instructions only need to be followed the first time you use the VPN:

  1. YOU CANNOT DO THIS INSTALLATION WHILE YOU ARE ON CAMPUS. YOU MUST BE OFF CAMPUS.
  2. You will need to know if you have a 64-bit or 32-bit version of Windows. See this KB article for instructions on how to determine which version you have
  3. Open a web browser and navigate to https://vpn.anderson.edu.You should see the following login box:
  4. Use your AU Network username and password to log in (the same username/password you use for your computer and AccessAU).
  5. A list of downloads will appear. Download the appropriate installer for your computer and operating system. You will only have to download and install this program one time per computer.
  6. Open the downloaded file and run the installer. Use the defaults and click Next when prompted.
  7. Click the Done button once the installer has successfully run.

Connecting to the VPN

After you are done installing you will now have a new program on your computer called GlobalProtect in a folder called Palo Alto. To connect to the VPN on a Window's machine:

  1. Type GlobalProtect in the search box in the bottom left corner. Click on the app GlobalProtect when it appears.
  2. In the Welcome to Global Protect box, enter vpn.anderson.edu in the box and click the Connect button.
  3. A login screen will appear. Use your AU network username and password to log in. (You may need to enter your credentials on both the Okta login screen and the Global Protect login screen).
  4. The "Status" should change to "Connected". You can now use your computer as if you were on campus.
  5. You need to do this every time you start up your computer.

Note: You may not be prompted to provide the address or your login information each time you log in.
